- Adding 500 µg/mL of chia seed extract increased sperm motility from 30% to 43.6% after thawing.
- Vitality improved from 30.7% to 44%, and membrane integrity rose from 31.3% to 43.1%.
2. Enhanced Antioxidant Activity
- The highest dose of chia seed extract elevated antioxidant-related gene expressions, such as superoxide dismutase (720%) and catalase (1000%).
- Lipid peroxidation, measured by malondialdehyde (MDA), decreased from 12.45 nmol/mL to 6.07 nmol/mL, protecting sperm cells from damage.
3. Reduced Cell Death and Apoptosis
- Apoptotic markers like Caspase-3 decreased by 61% at higher doses of chia extract, showing reduced stress on the sperm.
