Beyond Calcium: The Overlooked Nutrients

More than half of Americans consume less than optimal magnesium levels.
One cited study showed improved bone mineral density in women taking 250 mg/day magnesium compared to controls
2️⃣ Silicon
Silicon is highly concentrated in immature bone tissue and appears to play a role in early mineralisation
Average intake may be below levels associated with higher bone density.
3️⃣ Vitamin K
Vitamin K is involved in activating osteocalcin, a protein important for bone structure.
Lower intake has been linked with increased fracture risk
Boron may help stabilise vitamin D and estrogen and improve calcium and magnesium retention
About half the U.S. population consumes less than 1 mg daily.
What About Supplements?
The authors suggest that modest supplementation may help address common deficiencies — particularly for vitamin D, calcium, magnesium, silicon, vitamin K and boron — while cautioning against excessive intake of zinc, manganese, and copper, which are typically adequate in the average diet
They also raise caution about strontium, noting that although it can increase bone density readings, it may do so partly due to its heavier atomic weight and carries potential safety concerns
